Broadband Speed and Connectivity

This dashboard presents information about broadband speed and connectivity within different regions as reported by Ofcom's Connected Nations Report 2016.

Ofcom collected and analysed data from major fixed telecoms operators (BT, Virgin Media, Sky, Talk Talk, Vodafone and KCOM) and alternative network providers (Gigaclear, Hyperoptic, IFNL, B4RN and Relish); to capture attributes about coverage and connection speed, which were reported at postcode level. This chart presents the average download speed (in Mbit/s) of all connections, average upload speed (in Mbit/s) of all connections, and average data usage, download and upload, in GB of all connections.

Fixed Broadband Line Count by Connection Type (2016)

This chart present the count of connections that have average measured speeds below 2Mbit/s, 2Mbit/s or greater and below 5Mbit/s, 5Mbit/s or greater and below 10Mbit/s, 10Mbit/s or greater and below 30Mbit/s, 30Mbit/s or greater, and 300Mbit/s or greater.

Fixed Broadband Average Data Usage per Connection Type (2016)

This chart presents the average data usage, download and upload, in GB of all connections that deliver speed less than 10Mbit/s, less than 30Mbit/s (Basic Broadband), 30Mbit/s or greater (Superfast Broadband), and 300Mbit/s or greater (Ultrafast Broadband).
